Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this lovable family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
