Iran is prepared to restart atomic discussions with the United States on condition that it is treated with "respect" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has stated.

The Iranian diplomat said only diplomacy was effective, and revealed recent overtures had been made by intermediaries to reopen negotiations with the American leadership. He asserted Iran possessed no unreported enrichment locations, and Iran had not yet reached a point to allow the global atomic watchdog to inspect attacked atomic facilities for safety concerns.

Walking a Difficult Course

Araghchi is walking a challenging course since Iran wishes not to be perceived to be proceeding from a stance of vulnerability, and he consistently maintained that Iran had come out stronger in military terms and emotionally from the Israeli-US attack on its enrichment centers in June.

He was speaking at a defense forum in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to refine atomic fuel on home soil that it will always maintain" – the main reason of the impasse in the prior discussions.

Previous Negotiations Suddenly Ended

Iranian officials claimed they felt they had reached a "ideal resolution" to the nuclear fuel concern in prior discussions, when it was agreed an Iran-based consortium with American involvement could process nuclear material. The Tehran's diplomatic corps has been criticized of passivity in the aftermath of Washington's unmediated tactics, but Tehran asserts diplomacy is not part of a performance.

Diplomatic Position

In his address to the gathering, aimed to depict the US as a controlling nation that misuses the concept of worldwide standards, Araghchi stated the fortnight-long engagement demonstrated the clash could not be ended by military means. He said the attacks began with a US demand for an total Iran submission and culminated with an absolute demand for a truce.
