Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
