The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
