This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
