Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee as the Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.

The star player was hurt towards the end of the second quarter in an unintentional coming together with team-mate Jones.

Jones landed on the foot of Jokic, and he immediately went down to the floor grabbing his knee.

The veteran player, who is leading the NBA this season in boards and dimes, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to incurring the setback.

Jokic will have an MRI on the following day to evaluate the severity of the problem.

"Right away, Jokic understood there was a problem," commented Denver coach David Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone who gets hurt, that's tough to see, especially a player as talented as Jokic. We will know more tomorrow."

"We will continue as a team. Clearly, currently, I am focused just about Jokic as a person and the frustration of going through an event of that nature."
